Cambridge iGCSE Spanish (0530)
The Cambridge iGCSE Spanish specification is assessed across four skills: Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking. Jemima covers all four, with particular emphasis on exam technique alongside language development.
- Reading — comprehension strategies, identifying key information, answering in English and Spanish, inferring meaning from context
- Writing — short-answer tasks, structured writing tasks, and the extended writing component; accurate use of tense, agreement, and complex sentence structures
- Listening — past paper audio work, strategies for unfamiliar vocabulary, note-taking under time pressure
- Speaking — role-play, photo card and general conversation preparation; pronunciation, fluency, and handling unexpected questions
Edexcel International GCSE Spanish
Jemima is equally comfortable with the Edexcel International GCSE specification, which has its own structure and mark scheme emphases. Students on the Edexcel pathway receive the same rigorous, exam-focused preparation.
Foundation Tier
Foundation tier targets grades 1–5 and focuses on core language — the essential vocabulary, verb forms, and sentence structures that underpin all four skills. Jemima builds Foundation students’ confidence methodically, ensuring they have solid command of the high-frequency language and can perform reliably under exam conditions.
- Core vocabulary by theme (travel, health, family, school, environment, technology, work)
- Present, preterite, imperfect, and future tense usage
- Opinion phrases and justification structures

Higher Tier
Higher tier targets grades 4–9 and rewards linguistic range, accuracy, and sophistication. Jemima works with Higher tier students on the more demanding elements of the specification — extended writing, complex grammar, and nuanced spoken expression — always with reference to the mark scheme criteria.
- Advanced tense usage: subjunctive, conditional, pluperfect, passive constructions

- Extended writing: structuring arguments, developing ideas, and achieving register

Past Paper & Exam Preparation
As the exam approaches, sessions shift increasingly towards past paper practice. Jemima uses genuine past papers and mark schemes, provides detailed written feedback, and coaches students to self-assess their own work — a skill that pays dividends under exam pressure.
